At Milbotix, we believe technology should be built for a reason. Our work is driven by a simple but powerful idea: that innovation should help people live safer, more supported and more independent lives, especially as they age.

An ageing population is one of the defining global challenges of our time. People are living longer, often with complex health needs, placing increasing pressure on families, caregivers and health systems. Addressing this challenge requires not only medical advances, but compassionate, human-centred technologies that work in the real world.

That belief was reinforced recently when our Founder and CEO, Dr Zeke Steer, was invited to meet Prince William during his visit to the Bristol Robotics Laboratory at UWE Bristol. The visit highlighted how applied research and spin-out companies are working together to tackle societal health challenges, including ageing, disability and dementia care.

During the visit, Zeke shared the story behind SmartSocks® and how wearable technology can help carers better understand distress, wellbeing and movement in people living with dementia. It was a proud moment for Milbotix, and a reminder that even focused, specialist technologies can play a role in much larger conversations about the future of care.

Globally, initiatives such as the Earthshot Prize highlight the need for bold, practical solutions to the world’s biggest problems. While Milbotix operates on a smaller scale, we see our work as part of that same movement: applying science and engineering to challenges that matter deeply to people’s lives.

Our flagship product, SmartSocks®, was born from lived experience and developed through close collaboration with researchers, clinicians and people with lived experience of dementia. We are proud to be working with Alzheimer’s Society, the UK Dementia Research Institute, and through the SmartSocks®COMFORT Developer Programme, residential and domiciliary care providers whose input is shaping SmartSocks® into an effective, evidence-based solution for managing behaviour and preventing falls.

Through our SmartSocks®DISCOVERY platform, we now support research into sleep, stress, emotional wellbeing and neurological conditions, helping others explore how technology can improve quality of life.

We know that no single company can solve the challenges of ageing alone. Progress depends on collaboration, curiosity and a shared commitment to dignity and independence. At Milbotix, we are proud to play our part.

As the global population continues to age, the need for thoughtful, evidence-based innovation will only grow. We remain committed to building technology that is unobtrusive, meaningful and grounded in real human needs, and to working with partners who share that vision.
